Diskeeper Professional. Condusiv's Diskeeper 12 Professional is the latest iteration of a premium file fragmentation utility that is suitable for home, enterprise, and server applications. It actively prevents file fragmentation and can defragment your drives regularly. It doesn't defragment your SSDs, which shouldn't be defragmented, but they're not left out; a feature called Hyperfast optimizes I/O to maximize SSD performance and lifespan. Diskeeper also places our most frequently accessed files in the fastest area of the volume. Among the other new features in Diskeeper 12 are improved Alerting and Reporting mechanisms, a Disk Health feature that monitors S.M.A.R.T. data, and HyperBoot, a startup booster. Diskeeper's installation process includes a data survey and options such as whether to allow the program to automatically defragment all of our system's volumes. We deselected these options; Diskeeper can automatically detect and handle SSDs like our C drive, but we prefer to see what a process does before turning it loose on our system. The program's user interface is unique, with functions grouped in large, colorful blocks. The layout offers easy access to features and settings as well as a comprehensive Help file. Diskeeper uses a simple, basic suite of controls such as Enable, Disable, Not Available, and Information. Diskeeper is easy to set up; under Settings, we clicked Volume, System, and Disk Health to set each feature (Disk Health doesn't apply to SSDs). Diskeeper advises that, due to a lack of standards, users should identify any SSDs on the Volume tab, though the program accurately distinguished our SSD boot drive from the two volumes of our conventional HDD. The program's Advanced settings included the I-FAAST file acceleration tool, which only works on volumes with Automatic defragmentation enabled. Though Diskeeper recommends against it, you can specify files for acceleration by I-FAAST. The Email alerts options include fields for three different e-mail addresses for different Alert levels, one of Diskeeper's many nice touches. We were impressed with Diskeeper 12 Professional, especially by its state-of-the-art approach to SSDs. We feel that the sort of home user who installs an SSD to gain a performance edge is just the sort to be interested in Diskeeper's performance-boosting potential. Publisher's Description. October 16, 2013 | By ctemby. 2013-10-16 03:06:09 | By ctemby. | Version: Diskeeper 12 Professional 16.0.1010. -Installation was simple -Automatic defrag did just that. -Awful user interface -Automatic defrag increased read/write speed, but then suddenly over a 24 hour period worsened it again -Resulted in 2 HDDs in 8 drive RAID6 with reading errors, which eventually RAID could not read; HDDs were fine, just data corrupted by Diskeeper (Diskeeper corrupsted OS years ago when I tested it also, and had to reformat and reinstall) -Automatic defrag kept running whilst burning a disc, resulting in burn failure/coaster. -After 2 trials in the last few years, I have found Diskeeper to corrupt data and cause drive failure, and would not recommend at all -Instead would recommend Windows 7 or 8 inbuilt disk optimizer, or PerfectDisk if something more is required. It probably does the job if you don't ever plan on customizing it. Horrible interface. It looks like they were going for a quasi win8 like experience. Howerver, very little planning was put into it. They've removed all the toolbars so instead of getting to what you want logically with 3 or 4 clicks, you need to go through ton of different screens. I'm not a big fan of win8, mind you, however, I can admit their interface puts this to shame. I was a long time user of this software but now I've switched to perfect disk. I'm a fan of useable interface and always will be. Keep the clutter, at least I have everything visible and accessible.
